Taichung Basin

Taichung Basin (Chinese: ; pinyin: Tizhng Pnd) is located in the central region of western Taiwan. It occupies some parts of Taichung City, Nantou County and Changhua County. It faces the Choshui River on the south; the hill lands of Nantou on the east; Tatu Plateau on the northwest; and Pakua Plateau on the southwest. A notch connecting Taichung Basin to the seacoast of Taichung City is located between two plateaus.

Rochester Basin

The Rochester Basin, at 802 feet (244 m), is the deepest part of Lake Ontario. The lake bottom of the Rochester Basin is strongly marked by glaciation, with parallel gouges and underwater drumlins.

Nam Con Son Basin

The Nam Con Son Basin (also known as the Wanan Basin) formed as a rift basin during the Oligocene period. This basin is the southernmost sedimentary basin offshore of Vietnam, located within coordinates of 66'-945'N and 1060-10930'E in the East Vietnam Sea. It is the largest oil and gas bearing basin in Vietnam and has a number of producing fields. .

Great Lakes Basin Railroad

The Great Lakes Basin Railroad is a proposed railroad in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. The intended route bypasses Chicago to avoid its rail congestion, running from Janesville, Wisconsin, to Michigan City, Indiana. The project's estimated cost is $8 billion, privately financed. On May 1, 2017, the Great Lake Basin Railroad filed its construction application with the Surface Transportation Board. On August 30, 2017 the Surface Transportation Board unanimously rejected GLB's application.

Opening of a basin

Horsts and grabens are very well documented throughout this region. Although horsts and grabens do show and produce crustal extension, for a sufficient ocean basin to form, there needs to be extension that can accommodate for the extensive down fall of the grabens. Listric faults produce the correct model for this sufficient crustal extension. These faults have been documented by Chorowicz (2005) and aid in further verification of the future of this region and the potential for continued extension and subsidence

The Permian Basin International Oil Show is a trade show exposition which is hosted in the city of Odessa, Texas, USA, at the Ector County Coliseum on every even numbered year. It showcases the latest technology in the petroleum industry and also honors the industry's past. It is one of the largest expositions of its kind. The Oil Show is for executives and workers in various phases of the petroleum industry and is not open to the public

West Siberian basin

The West Siberian basin lies between the Ural mountains and the Siberian craton to its east. It corresponds to the geographic region of the West Siberian plain. Deposition in rift valleys resulting from prolonged subsidence of the Triassic Koltogor-Urengoy graben in an intra-cratonic sag basin beginning in the Jurassic has resulted in a thick 'basin fill' of sedimentary deposits ranging from Jurassic to Cenozoic in age. There are two major north-south trending rift structures of Triassic age buried beneath the basin fill: the Urengoy and the Khudosey rift. These rifts are mainly filled with Lower Triassic basic volcanic rocks. The West Siberian basin and its offshore portions in the south Kara sea are the largest oil province in the world. It has an area of 2,200,000 square kilometres (850,000 sq mi) and the USGS estimates oil and gas reserves of 360 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the basin.

St. Lawrence River basin

Seagoing ships can reach Quebec City and smaller ones can reach Montreal. One might think that the route would continue up the St. Lawrence, but this was not the case. Possible reasons are the Lachine Rapids and other rapids above Montreal, Niagara Falls, Iroquois hostility, the poorer quality of southern furs and the lack of large birch trees to make canoes. The route west from Montreal has been called the 'first Trans-Canada Highway'. It ran from near Montreal, up the Ottawa River, west up the Mattawa River to Trout Lake and over the 7 mile La Vase portage at what is now North Bay on Lake Nipissing and down the French River to Georgian Bay of Lake Huron. This route was first used by Etienne Brule in 1610 and later by Champlain. When the Iroquois made the Ottawa dangerous it was possible for small canoes to continue up the Ottawa above the Mattawa and from its sources cross to the Saint-Maurice River and down to the St. Lawrence at Trois-Rivires. From the French River south to the Jesuit Huron missions at the southern end of Georgian Bay (1626-1640). Or west through the Strait of Mackinac to Lake Michigan. Or west north of Manitoulin Island and up the St Marys River (26 feet difference in elevation) to Lake Superior. On Lake Superior voyageurs would normally hug the northern shore because of the danger of frequent squalls that could overturn their boats. The route up the St. Lawrence to Lake Ontario, Niagara Falls, Lake Erie, Detroit River, Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River and lower Lake Huron developed later (Adrien Jolliet in 1669 was probably the first) and was never the main westward route. North of the St. Lawrence were many complex lakes and rivers that were sometimes used to go as far as James Bay. The Toronto Carrying-Place Trail was a major portage route in the St. Lawrence basin, linking Lake Ontario with Lake Simcoe and the northern Great Lakes.
